Keen® to go PFC Free

PFCs are everywhere and in everything around us, exposure to these forever chemicals can be lead to some health effects and so what would we rather try and achieve than a zero PFC industry by 2025, in which outdoor footwear can lead the revolution.

For the past seven years, Keen® have been working tirelessly to rid their footwear of all harmful chemicals, such as PFC and now they want to share their experience with the rest of the outdoor footwear industry to help them do the same and beyond that they want to help us to go PFC free at home too.

What the heck are PFCs?

Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) are a group of man-made chemicals that include a class of about 5,000 fluorinated compounds known as PFAS — or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. They are called "forever chemicals" because of how persistent they are. These toxic chemicals never break down, remain in the environment, and enter the food chain. Today, they are found in everything from fast food wrappers and drinking water to durable water repellent (DWR) treatments in outdoor apparel and footwear.

So what can we do? We'll like it says, we should all be much more aware of how to identify products with PFCs in and then which items we can swap then out with, whether thats in the house, place of work or in the products we purchase.

Follow the link below for more info on what we can do to try and persuade the outdoor footwear industry to tackle this issue and to also make it easy for us at home too.
